Have Fun And Relax While Decorating

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

One of the first things to keep in mind about decorating your home is why you are doing it. Decorating is an amazing thing because you are making the space you live in more beautiful. What can be more important and more fun that figuring out ways to make the most of your space?

Another great thing about decorating is that it allows you to learn who you are and the things you like and then show it off to others. You can learn so much about your friends just by seeing the place they choose to live in. You can get a sense of what they value and of the small things that make them uniquely who they are. Decorating is something that helps you gain more understanding of yourself. Be proud to show off who you are by decorating your house in a way you love.

Take your time decorating. Don’t allow yourself to be rushed or to be on a strict deadline. You will have much more fun and end up with a space you love if you take your time. Sift through magazines, photographs and catalogs for weeks if you have to just to gain good ideas for your own home. Learn from the mistakes and victories of your friends and families as you see their homes. Especially when you are making big decisions like what color to paint your wall or what kind of furniture to buy, taking your time will make all the difference.

Give them reasonable boundaries, but within those boundaries let them choose things they enjoy. As long as you can make do with the space that you have, that is okay. Do not worry about anything else but in completing the decoration that you want to do so much. Have fun and relax while doing this. This is your time to express yourself.

Wisdom Course: Decorating for the Seasons And Then Some

Friday, February 20th, 2009

For those of you that desire to have your house decorated for each season, here a couple tips. Choose a few spaces that you will decorate seasonally, and use year-round decorations for other areas in the house. This way, clean-up needs and clutter are both cut down. For example, put up a couple shelves in a prominent place and adorn them with seasonal decorations, or set up a calendar area that showcases monthly décor. If you have young children at home, a cute way to decorate with durable, non-dangerous materials is to choose a stuffed animal and change what it wears with each month or season. To cut down on storage, consider revamping and reusing your crafts. Many crafts can be exchanged or reused for different seasons. One of the best examples is exchanging your wreath from one season to another by removing the flowers and replacing them with new flowers appropriate for that season.

Watering your plants is not exactly a difficult science; however, many of us do make the mistake of not giving our plants the right amount of water. It is all too easy to douse our plants with too much water. One problem with overwatering is that it washes out necessary nutrients from your plant’s soil. Overwatering your plant can also cause the roots to rot. One way to ensure your plant gets the proper amount of water is to use a watering bulb or other controlled watering devise. They are made to slowly release water into the soil in proper quantities.

An increasing tendency in wedding decorations is to use artificial or silk flowers. Roses by far are the prominent silk flower selection for weddings. Similarly, there is a growing trend for silk roses in homes today. Not only do silk roses last an extremely long time, but the similarity in appearance to real roses is almost perfect; both of these factors have led to the upswing in usage. The durability of the roses depends on how well they are maintained; they will last a couple years if they are not kept up, and decades if they are preserved well. There are many ways to decorate your house with roses—they can be added to a garland draped over a mantelpiece, or they can adorn a vase on a side table. When roses are placed in a flower arrangement, be sure to angle them so that they can be seen from any point in the room. Adding a scent to your roses also gives your home a nice touch.

Though many of us claim to be self-taught interior decorators, sometimes it is better to just go to the experts. Interior decorators can be somewhat pricey, so you will want to do your research and choose someone who matches your tastes and interests. Make sure to procure some models, illustrations, and recommendations from anyone you are considering. Interior decorators should have a book, a website, or a pamphlet showing their previous work with other clients. If you decide to contact previous customers, question them about the quality of the work and how well the decorator listened to the concerns and plans of their clients. These steps will help you feel sure that you are giving your money and your trust to someone you will feel happy with.
